Discount Airlines: Flying on the Cheap |
|||||||||||||||||||||
| Cheaper air travel is becoming almost commonplace around the world as airlines compete for the traveler’s dollar, and while there are few discount airlines, discount airline tickets are all the go for the discerning traveller who is willing to shop around. There are some carriers which specialize in discounted fares, and make their money from their sales volumes rather than their ticket prices, e.g., Virgin Airlines compete with major carriers in Australia by providing low fares and “no frills” travel, with meals and drinks not included in the price of a seat. Virgin Atlantic flies between Britain and the USA in the same manner. Their planes are safe and comfortable and their staff professional. Travellers could be forgiven for wondering how much of the cost of a full-price ticket on a major carrier actually goes on overheads.
Discount airline tickets are available online. Many websites offer the possibility of comparing fares on various carriers, and once a satisfactory result is achieved bookings can be made on the spot. The first time I made an airline reservation online I felt distinctly uneasy, but I soon found that simple is good and it all worked out well. My credit card details were secure, my e-ticket was waiting for me on arrival and when I boarded the aircraft, no-one else was sitting in my seat! So take advantage of the trend for cheaper air travel to shop around for discount airlines or discount airline tickets.
